CHENNAI: The tranquil, upmarket neighbourhood of Boat Club road in Chennai boasts some of the city's most high-profile residents. But rarely has it seen this level of attention.
Media vans started queuing up outside BCCI president N Srinivasan's palatial mansion late on Friday night and then the crowd continued to gather, hoping to catch a glimpse or squeeze a few words out of the man who is in the news for all the wrong reasons.
They did catch a glimpse but were unable to get anything out of Srinivasan who, face set in stone, seemed oblivious to the gathering. The windows of his black Range Rover were rolled up as it went in and out of the bungalow twice on Saturday.
In between the brief appearances, there was a lot of waiting. Every time there was even a hint of a black SUV turning the corner, the media entourage sprung to life.
Srinivasan is a neighbour to a media baron and there were heated discussions on how much each house was worth. The discussions were abruptly interrupted as the 15-foot gates of Srinivasan's house opened only to reveal a couple of his dogs being taken out for their customary walk!
Even the dogs weren't spared the paparazzi treatment. Srinivasan's gag orders seem to apply even to them, though, with the security guard refusing to reveal the names or the breeds of the canines!
In between, a group of priests entered the Srinivasan residence. He is known to be a religious and superstitious man and may need some divine intervention in the coming days.
